CHARACTER INFO
NAME: Edge Maverick.
CANON: Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope
REFERENCE LINKS: http://starocean.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Ocean:_The_Last_Hope
CHARACTER INFO: Edge is an orphan who grew up with his two best friends—Reimi and Crowe—on the irradiated, ruined husk of Earth. World War 4 all but destroyed everything, humanity has been driven underground, and what governments are left have united into one solidified World Government. Edge and his friends joined the military as soon as they were old enough, and are part of the space program—everyone being well aware that getting off their doomed planet is their only, that is to say, Last Hope.
While Crowe is clearly the skills and Reimi the brains of their team, Edge is the heart. Despite his rough upbringing, Edge is a pretty easy-going guy, who believes the best of everyone, even when he has proof of otherwise staring him in the face. Honestly, he's a little dumb that way. He can be competitive where Crowe is concerned, though he quickly grows out of that and learns to appreciate himself for his own skills as a leader and team member. He can be a bit reckless, but that's because to Edge, many things seem black and white—you help people in trouble, no matter what, consequences what consequences?
Edge's biggest life-changing moment would be falling through a black hole onto alternate 1950s Roswell, Nevada, where—through a series of unfortunate events—he ends up causing the explosion of the Earth. This all but crushes Edge's sense of self-worth, and he spends a good half a disc being moody and mopey. Eventually, with much being lead-around-by-the-hand, he comes to believe that he can still make a positive difference in people's lives, and that doing nothing out of fear of a Bad End is a terrible way to live.
CONSIDERATIONS: Without any of Edge's trauma memories, I expect he would be how he is for most of the game—doofy, easy going and friendly. He's a little clueless at times, but is a truly caring individual. He would be very reckless in offering aid, since it is his eagerness that caused disaster on alternate-Earth.
SKILLS: Edge can fire a SPACE GUN~ and fight with a sword. He has a few light-based magic skills and decent healing/support abilities. He knows how to captain and navigate for a ship, as well as utilize the on-board systems to alchemize a whole bunch of gadgetry and upsetting food items. He is good at coming up with engineering-based solutions. He is also one of three (if you guessed the other two as Reimi and Crowe THEN YOU MUST HAVE PLAYED A JRPG BEFORE) 'Seeds of Hope' —special children with special poorly explained powers. Edge has a crest on the back of his right hand that will glow in times of adversity. It is not really clear what "power" this is, but it seems to be some sort of power up, both for him and those around him – it is a warm glowly light that fills everyone with warm fuzzy feelings, I guess. It also allows him to lead his team out of a never-ending dimension of darkness by believing in the heart of their turned-traitor teammate. It is not at all gay.
OPTION 3: fill out the below IC survey (as the normal canon self, not amnesia self)
Introduce yourself in a few sentences:
--Hello there! I'm Edge Maverick, captain of the SRF-003 Calnus, and I'm honored to have been chosen. Humanity is still pretty new to space— in fact, we're the first exploration team to ever move beyond our own solar system—but we don't exactly have a lot of time to take it slow. But we're doing okay, with a little help from a race of aliens called Eldarians that I guess our government has secretly been in contact with for years. To be honest, we really owe them a lot. I guess we humans were almost like children, compared to them.
The most important things to me are my friends—not only the people I grew up with, but everyone I've met along the way. I've learned so much, and I'm really grateful for everyone's help. Eh heh... I guess that wasn't really about me so much, was it?
"The suffering of a few is okay if it benefits a great many" -- do you agree with this sentiment? Why or why not?
--No, not at all. No amount of suffering is worth it, if it can be avoided—every life is precious. Besides that... I don't ever want to be the sort of person who looks at someone in need and doesn't try and help them. Even if we're afraid of how it might turn out... it's worth it just to try. That person you helped will never forget it.
What event from your past has impacted you the most? Please describe
--The thing that's impacted me the most... it's the worst thing I've ever done. If I could, I'd just forget about it, but... I don't deserve to forget about it, not after what I did. More importantly, everyone... I owe it to everyone who never got a chance to fulfill their potential to never forget it.
Deep down—I think I knew it was a bad idea. But I wanted so badly to believe I was helping, that I could change Earth's future, so that— that we wouldn't have to be doomed, that people wouldn't have to suffer. So I tuned out everything else, ignored everyone who tried to tell me to think carefully, and I turned over a piece of technology to a world that wasn't ready for it.
And in the end I— because of me... I destroyed the entire Earth, the one thing I wanted more than anything to save.
If you were a kind of food item, what item would you be and why?
--Uh, wow. Um, I guess... I guess I'd want to be something hearty and filling, with a lot of nutrients. But nothing too exotic, so that as many people as possible could enjoy me. Or, uh... enjoy... the food.
Three things you're good at?
--Leadership — I may not have all the answers, but a good leader knows when to listen to the people under him.
--Making friends — there are so many interesting people out there, if you just try and get to know them. Really, no matter what planet we're from, people are all pretty similar.
--Fighting—I've spent a lot of time practicing, so that I can be good enough. It's not that I want to be able to hurt people, but there are people I need to protect.
Three things you're not so good at?
--...Living up to Crowe's standards. I mean, he's amazing! I've never met anyone as talented and together as Crowe is. Sometimes, it makes me a little angry, but he's never rubbed it in my face. I guess it's just me needing to grow up a little more. I'll get better—at that, and everything else, too—just you watch, Crowe.
--Girls. Sometimes, I have no idea what they want, you know? I said the flowers were beautiful! Why did that make her angry?
--Thinking ahead. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, there just isn't time for that! But I guess... sometimes things turn out really bad, if you don't stop and think about it.
Do you believe in soulmates or love at first sight?
I guess... I think I believe in soulmates. Somewhere out there is the person you're meant to be with—the one person who knows you better than anyone, and who understands you and supports you, even if that support means yelling at you when you're wrong.
"Killing criminals is okay if they've committed a grave crime" -- do you agree with this? Why or why not?
If at all possible... I'd like to save them. When people do evil things, then absolutely, without question they need to be stopped—but stopping them and killing them doesn't have to be the same thing. If we all just tried to understand each other a little better... I'm sure it wouldn't have to turn out this way...
Do you consider yourself a strong person? Why or not why?
Physically, I definitely think I'm pretty strong. Not outrageously strong or anything, but I've trained hard, and I can hold my own in a fight.
I've been through a lot, so I guess I must be at least a little strong in other ways, too. But I think a lot of my strength comes from the people who support me. Knowing they're depending on me, that they're there to back me up—it keeps me moving forward.
Free section: (Please put something which you think symbolizes you or is otherwise important to you)
--Uh, okay! I wasn't really sure what was supposed to go here, so I drew a picture. I hope that's okay. I'm not really anything of an artist... but anyway. This is my hope for the future:

Oh, I mean... it's supposed to be a metaphor. I'm not really hoping the earth will suddenly have a facial expression, or grow little arms and legs. That's just—if the Earth is happy, that means it's healthy, and clean, and that we can live there again. That's... really important to me.
